Damià Gomis
Full professor of Physics of the Earth at the University of the Balearic Islands.
ORCID Code: 0000-0002-9732-0080
Education:
Degree in Physics (1986), University of the Balearic Islands.
Ph.D. in Physics (1990), University of the Balearic Islands.
Posdoctoral stay (1990-91) at the Department of Meteorology of the University of Reading (UK).
Damià Gomis’ research initially focused on the spatial objective analysis of atmospheric and oceanographic data, the diagnosis of dynamical processes and the physical-biological coupling in the ocean, combining theoretical work and field trips in the Mediterranean Sea and in the Southern Ocean. During the last two decades he has focused on marine climate, particularly on present and future sea level variability. More recently he has retaken one of his initial topics of research: the Mediterranean meteotsunamis.
Damià Gomis shares his research activity with the direction of the UIB’s Interdisciplinary Laboratory on Climate Change, an entity that brings together more than sixty scientists with the aim of transferring and disseminating the scientific knowledge on climate change towards administrations, socio-economic sectors and society.
On the educational side Damià Gomis is responsible for the General Physics and Classic Mechanics courses of the Physics degree.
